Off-duty Corrections Officer, Jerry P. Laureano, was hanging out with his friend Antonio “Tony” Rotundo, owner of Rose’s Deli, when Laureano observed a man attempting to enter multiple parked vehicles.

“I observed the male pulling on the car door handles,” states the formal police report given by Laureano. “The suspect was across the East Side of John F. Kennedy Blvd.”

The off-duty corrections officer observed the suspicious man gain access to a parked Black Chevy Impala. Laureano instructed Rose’s deli owner to call the police while he apprehended the suspected.

Correction officers like police officers attend 16 weeks of training academy, are Police Training Commission (PTC certified) and have full arrest powers state wide.

“I observed the suspect…rummaging through some belonging. I displayed my police badge,” continues the Laureano’s statement. He placed the suspect, later identified as Emmanuel Naples, under citizens arrest without the use of handcuffs. “I placed his hands behind back and crossed them. I held him in that position until the North Bergen Police arrived.”

The North Bergen police arrived on the scene moments later where they found Naples to be in possession of a pocket knife.

Naples was charges with “Burglary and Criminal Attempt Theft” and “Possession of Burglary Tools.” The suspect has been transported to Hudson County Jail.

Dog found in North Bergen, reunited with owner after 6 months of searching

AP – A New Jersey woman has been reunited with her beloved pet dog that skipped out of her apartment six months ago. Tanya Flowers told The Jersey Journal that she spent days handing out hundreds of fliers and contacting animal shelters after her year-old Maltese named Paris vanished last September.

The Jersey City woman feared she wouldn’t see the dog again. But just over a week ago, a New York City shelter called to tell her that Paris had been found.

“I wasn’t sure if this was a joke or not, because I had received numerous prank phone calls from the fliers I had put up,” Flowers said.

Paris supposedly was found walking the streets in North Bergen four months ago, Flowers said. A man who spotted her took her in, but then decided he could no longer care for her and took her to his mother’s home in Staten Island.

The mother took the dog to a veterinarian, who discovered a microchip that linked Paris to Flowers. She said she couldn’t be happier to have “her baby” back home. “When I walked up to the door in Staten Island and saw my dog, I just started screaming,” Flowers said. She said Paris immediately began barking and licking her face.

Two North Bergen Students Hit the Lottery Multiple Times

There are several archetypes of New Jersey Lottery players, officials say.

North Bergen students 18-year-old Ali Said and 19-year-old Ali Najjar used their winnings from a $5 instant scratch off ticket to buy a $10 ticket. They repeated this pattern until they moved up to a $20 prize and eventually becoming a $50,000 winner.

New Jersey Lottery Instant Games players won more than $98.5 million in prizes in February, officials stated Wednesday.

The FACTS Behind This Photo

On February 23rd, a suspicious person was seen photographing houses on the dead end block of Aschoff Place. A nearby resident snapped a few photos and forwarded them to the home owner. The incident was forgotten about until someone attempted to break into the owner’s home a week later.

The very next day, the same photo was used on social media by user named “Frank D’Angelo” and indicated that the same person in the photograph had stalked and assaulted his stepdaughter.

“…he’s out to cause trouble that’s a sword on his back people he attacked my stepdaughter this afternoon,” writes D’Angelo. “There were several pics taken a man took some that the person tried to break into the home on 50 something street and there are also pics from a video cam by the bakery it’s the same person some people are saying it was a girl but the person that attacked me wasn’t a girl.”

The speculation of a sword was recirculated by HudsonTV’s Jillian Risberg. In a brief posting titled “MAN WITH A SWORD!” the article questions whether the posting was a hoax.

“I can tell you for a fact that there were no sword attacks in North Bergen,” confidently says Sgt. Querio. “We can not verify the claims [of Frank D’Angelo]. No victims have come forward.”

The North Bergen Police Department even went as far as taking a comparison photo to dispel the “sword” rumor.

The story was traced back to post on a Facebook Group called “New Jersey Online yard sale” by a user named ‘Victoria Colon’. “My friend (personally) was attacked by this man today!! At 1130 am at 6 corners in north Bergen…” says her post.

When HudPost reached out to the Victoria and she claims “that man tried to break into a house on 51st and Tonnelle Ave. And [there’s] video running after attacking my friend today on the bakery (Six Corners Cafe) camera.”

North Bergen Police also verifies no assaults were reported in the midtown area that day —with or without a sword.

““I think I would’ve noticed a sword,” says the photographer of the picture, who wishes to remain anonymous. “I’m more concerned about why she was here and if she’s connected to an attempt break-in.”

The police Chief verified that the suspect in the photo did not commit a crime by photographing houses, but has been reached out to for questioning.

“But at no time did they attempt to enter the property and from what we can tell, there was no crime committed,” Police Chief Robert Dowd says.

Sgt. Querio confirmed that the investigation of the suspect in the photo is still active. The original attempted break-in is also under investigation.

North Bergen Police Department Dispels Rumors of Man with Sword

The North Bergen Police Department is currently investigating a report of an unknown person taking photographs in the area 48th Street and Aschoff Place. A photograph of the individual has been circulating on social media which claims the person was in possession of a Samurai sword strapped to his back.

A comparison photograph taken by the Detective Bureau, clearly shows the chain link fence has one slat which does not match in the section directly behind the individual. The individual was not armed with a Samurai sword in any witness accounts.

If anyone has any additional information about the individual in the photograph, please contact the Detective Bureau at (201) 392-2092.
