Wawa coming to North Bergen?

South New Jersayans are familiar with convience store chain Wawa with self-serve computer touch-screen menus for food orders. Currently, the closest Wawa to North Bergen is located in Hackensack, NJ. On Feb. 2nd, 2016 North Bergen’s Planning Board could change that when they will vote to “CONSTRUCT WAWA CONVENIENCE STORE WITH FUEL STATION AND FAST FOOD RESTAURANT WITH DRIVETHRU” on the 7408 Tonnelle Ave.

North Bergen introduces $5,000,000 bond ordinance

The North Bergen Board of Commissioners introduced a $5 million bond ordinance this week that would fund a number of capital projects over the coming year, including the design of a 1.5-acre park adjacent to the new Hudson Mews residential development and the purchase of a roughly 1.5-acre property from Suez North America.

  • $500,000 would go toward the design of a new 1.5-acre passive park overlooking the Meadowlands on Paterson Plank Road

  • $620,000 will go toward road repairs and resurfacing — including the length of Park Avenue

  • $100,000 toward maintenance of the sanitary and storm water sewer system

  • $400,000 toward replacing track at Bruin Stadium

  • $270,000 for equipment, machinery and technology upgrades

  • $615,000 acquisition of new vehicles, including a new street sweeper

A vote to adopt the bond ordinance is scheduled for the next meeting of the Board of Commissioners on Feb. 10.

50 animals rescued, 12 found dead in North Bergen home

A warrant has been issued for Juan Perez, 58, of Hillcrest Avenue in North Bergen, who faces 68 counts of animal cruelty after authorities found dozens of cats and dogs living in unspeakable conditions, according to North Bergen Police Chief Robert Dowd.

“It was more neglect than any kind of abuse,” explained Animal Control Officer Vincent Ascolese. “But it’s a delicate line. If the animals aren’t taken care of, it’s considered abuse.”

NBPD praised for diversity by Hispanic Law Org

The North Bergen Police Department “exceeds expectations” on diversity in its hiring and promotional practices, according to a departmental audit performed jointly by the National Coalition of Latino Officers and the Hispanic American Law Enforcement Association on behalf of the Latino Action Network, a civil rights organization focused on advocating for Hispanic communities.

Superior Court Judge Margaret M. Foti rejected the state’s request to seal the record and close the proceedings in which Timothy J. Grossi, 76, of Jersey City, is trying to obtain internal affairs documents relating to a state investigator who is expected to be a witness at Grossi’s upcoming trial in April, said defense attorney Jeffrey G. Garrigan.
