Freeholder Vainieri kicks off 2nd annual Hudson County Fair

Freeholder Anthony Vainieri kicked off the 2nd annual Hudson Country Fair at James J. Braddock park.

Freeholder Vainieri describes the atmosphere as, “A beautiful night as families enjoyed the games, rides and good food,”

This year’s fair included the addition of a 90’ Ferris wheel.

“I promised to bring community events to our neighborhoods. I started the first ever Farmers Market, Arts Fair and brought back our carnival that we had when I was growing up,” says Freeholder Vainieri.

North Bergen's Ed Duran inducted into the Hudson County Hall of Fame

Edward Duran who played quarterback during the school state championship run in 1984 was inducted into the Hudson County Hall of Fame.

The Hudson County Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1991 by the Hudson County Division of Parks, with the support of the Office of the County Executive and the Board of Chosen Freeholders, to commemorate the many Hudson County athletes, boosters, coaches, and journalists who have left their mark in the professional and scholastic worlds of sport.

Duran played under the late Vincent Ascolese and went on to play linebacker for Boston College.

Pressure cooker left on North Bergen street corner

A pressure cooker was left on a street corner near the 67th Street basketball court in North Bergen. This scare comes after multiple pressure cooker devices were rigged to explode and found in Seaside and Elizabeth, NJ – one that actually detonated.

The device was reported by multiple residents that contacted the police following the, “If you see something, say something,” motto and we’re all glad they did.

“The item did not contain any incendiary devices,” says the North Bergen Police Department. In collaboration with the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit were able to deem the device safe.

Reports: Bicyclist struck by vehicle on Tonnelle Ave

Editors Note: In an earlier edit of this article it was reported that the man died as a result of the accident. Upon getting more information.He was then transported to the Jersey City Medical Center and was initially listed in critical condition, but has since regained consciousness and has been stabilized. He still remains at the Jersey City Medical Center for observation, authorities said.

Reports indicate that a man was struck by a vehicle last night in midtown North Bergen on Tonnelle Ave. Witnesses say that a man was riding his bicycle along Tonnelle Ave near New Durham Church. The Hudson County crash investigation unit was on scene. No further information is available at the moment.

North Bergen comes together to provide uniforms for back to school

On August 27th, HudPost.com and publisher, James de los Santos, sponsored “Stand Up for a Cause” comedy show at Jimmy D’s on 43rd street in North Bergen.

Comedians Mario Medina, Brad Stoll, Doug Brian, Enrique Galan, and Christopher Crespo made the crowd laugh while musical artist Just Papi, TeeWhy, Idania, Izzy, and Chris Major made the crowd dance.

Uniforms purchased were made possible by the generosity of local businesses, performers, and residents.

North Bergen teenager shot and killed in Queens, NY

According to reports by Pix 11, 18-year-old man, identified as Albert Schaper, of North Bergen, was shot in the chest and pronounced dead, according to police.

Police received a call for multiple people shot around 9:30 p.m., in the vicinity of Jamaica Avenue and Van Wyck Expressway. When they arrived, they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds.

North Bergen police welcome new officers

“I would like to congratulate the new officers and thank them for their selfless attitude and their commitment to protect the residents of North Bergen,” praised Mayor Nicholas Sacco.

Today the North Bergen Police Department welcomed six new officers to the force.

Emily Ramirez, Vanessa Espinoza, Biron Mendoza, George Somarriba, Salvatore Giuca, and Bryan Suarez were swore in today at 12:30 PM.

“Today we welcomed six new officers to the North Bergen Police Department, these officers are tasked with the protection of the people of North Bergen and are a [sic] now part of an excellent department with great leadership to guide them. Congratulations to all the new officers,” says Commissioner Allen Pascual, who is head of public safety.
