We believe in our community.”

North Bergen resident receives heartfelt letter from a stranger

North Bergen Letter

A week before the beginning of the holiday season North Bergen resident, Mrs. Toni Ann Rodriguez of 75th Street, received a heartfelt letter from an anonymous person. The letter thanks Mrs. Rodriguez for a bench she built in front of her house.

The letter is from a person who says they have had over 30 major operations and was left with the inability to walk for 9 and half years. The person says the bench is“a blessing” and “kind and thoughtful” gesture.

To: Homeowner –

I know you do not know me but I have a paper and pen on me, in my tote bag. I just want to say that this/these “2 benches” you have here, is such a very kind & thoughtful thing to do here, next to the sidewalk on your property. What a blessing it just was for me!!! A place to site down and rest my legs. I’ve had 32 major operations and have not walked at all for 9 1/2 years and then 7 more years “no weight bearing” – “hopping” on one leg, on crutches. The pain is execrating when I walk.

Thank you for providing this seat so I can give my legs (& pain) a little rest.

“[My mother] built this bench, it has never been vandalized, her décor has never been stolen or tampered with…All types of people sit here; students, teachers, elderly, parents with children, people of all races, all ages, all religions, sexualities & genders have found rest on these benches.” says Desarae Rodriguez, daughter of Toni Ann. “In our home, we don’t build walls, we don’t push people away and look at the magic it brought forward.”

North Bergen native and CIA Director, John Brennan, gives Trump advice

In a sit-down interview with BBC News, North Bergen native and current CIA director, John Brennan, gives President-Elect Trump warnings about foreign affairs.

“The Russians and the Syrians have taken advantage of any pauses in fighting to advance their position in the battlefield. They have been disingenuous in many of their negotiating tactics. So I think President-Elect Trump…need to be wary,” says Brennan.

The North Bergen native also goes on to give advice on Trump’s use of language. “I do think that [Trump and his administration] needs to be disciplined in the language that they use and the message that they send…their language will be exploited by terrorist and extremist organization as a way to portray the United States as Anti-Islamic,” explains Brennan. “We’re not.”

President Barack Obama nominated Brennan as his director of the CIA on January 7, 2013. Brennan also served as chief counterterrorism advisor to U.S. President Barack Obama; his title was Deputy National Security Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, and Assistant to the President.

Brennan was raised in North Bergen, New Jersey. He attended the Immaculate Heart of Mary Elementary School, and graduated from Saint Joseph of the Palisades High School in West New York, New Jersey before enrolling at Fordham University in New York City.

“Target’s got everything you need this Thanksgiving, including a big, empty parking lot you can just come sit in for a sec,” SNL jokes.

The big box department store opened it’s doors in 2004.

Sacco said that he was pleased to see an area that was once a vacant and deserted factory, a total eyesore, transformed into a viable shopping area. It’s all part of the plan to revitalize that portion of Tonnelle Avenue, an area that was designated in dire need of redevelopment in 1999.
